Hi Tim - I work for a manufacturer that supplies engines to heavy equipment and have met with several owners in the field. In addition to the basic driving skills/qualifications needed to operate the truck, owners will be very interested in 3 things:

1. Your reliability and loyalty as an employee - if they hire you, can they trust that you are going to stay on board? Will you show up on time to the job? To sell yourself to an employer, I would recommend giving examples of how you have demonstrated your reliability in the past. Share references that can vouch for you.
2. Your dedication to safety - operating heavy equipment can be a dangerous profession. Do you understand the basics of safety? Lock out / tag out, etc? Are you committed to taking the time to ensure you will put safety over ALL other considerations? Think about how you may have demonstrated this in your prior experiences.
3. Experience - this is an area I am less certain of for operating Dump Trucks specifically, but would assume to drive heavy equipment, you may need to first demonstrate your capability before getting the job. So, dont be surprised if you need to work your way up to this job.

A final recommendation would be to network with others in this field locally to learn more about opportunities and requirements. Maybe even reach out to a company to see if someone would be willing to meet briefly with you for a quick 10-15 min chat.

Good luck!

Hi there, you probably need a commercial driver's license and to pass some safety tests. I would recommend you call a dump truck company in your area and ask them what the qualifications are.
