During your internship, you'll be evaluated more so on your soft skills rather than technical skills. That means they're always looking at your behavior and attitude. If you're enthusiastic and coachable, you can learn anything that they'll need you to do.


That said, you need to take a good look around at the people and the work itself and see if you'll be happy/content working there. An internship is like a trial run for the company, it's not the end all be all of your career starting point.


Always take notes. For everything. Every little thing.


And remember, you're always going to be your harshest critic... don't be hard on yourself in the beginning. A positive workplace knows that this is your first time working there so they won't hold unreasonable expectations over you.

Internships can be a huge learning curve for recent graduates and they’re a great way to set you up for your future career. If you’re still unsure about what path you’d like to take or the industry you want to enter requires a bit more hands on experience, an internship can be a brilliant way to develop new skills and gain a bit of an insight into what it’s like to work in that sector.

You’ll learn a lot of things as an intern about your career and life in general,

* Don’t expect a gold star for good work
* A positive attitude will get you a lot further than a negative one
* It’s never too early to start building your professional network
* Once you have completed your internship, put the effort in to maintaining the relationships you built during your time there
* Punctuality is incredibly important.
* showing a bit of enthusiasm in your work.
* An internship is a learning opportunity, so make the most of it by getting involved in projects where you can, learning a bit about how the business runs, practicing using new tools
* As an intern, it’s likely that you may be lumbered with the slightly dull tasks that no one really wants to do,
* Internships can be a lot of fun, so relax, get to know the team and enjoy yourself!

Go in with an open mind willing to try anything that is presented to you. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Learn as much as you. You will find that this experience will be invaluable to you as you begin to look for a full-time job. Your performance could land you a job offer. If you decided to look at other companies your intership will show you have valuable experience that other applicants may not have.

The biggest lesson I have learned is to take advantage of every opportunity. When you have the title "intern", people are more willing to take time out of their day to talk with you and teach you new things. Expand your network and learn as much as possible.

I learned, not to be focused on the future of your role, rather give your utmost efforts in your current. I unfortunately had to learn this the "hard" way. While interning as a young adult, I had a bit of a chip on my shoulder because of the company I was interning for and the fact that I was getting paid more money than most interns at that time. If your given an opportunity paid or not to intern for a prestigious or fortune 500 company, please be humble, soak up all the knowledge you can and most importantly do whatever is expected of you.

I learned that being a part of a team means not just pulling your weight, but making sure you show your investment in the rest of the team and your willingness to help in whatever way might come up. Trust is crucial in a team environment and it is much harder to build it up than it seems.

The most insightful life lesson I learned while interning is the value of taking the conceptual knowledge you have learned through your undergraduate course work and being able to build practical experience through an internship program. Internships are kind of like a test run before you jump into a full time position. It allows you to foresee how your future could potentially look like within the career field of your choosing.
