Hi Cinthya, can you clarify for me a bit on this? What are you thinking you'd like to stop after a major? I assume by major you are referring to your college major; is that right? Thanks in advance.

Hi Cinthya,

All education is a means to an end. The end for everyone is to make money to be able to live at the degree of life they choose. College, High School, Professional School, all of these means are just a path that you can take in order to make money in a certain field of work. I have many friends that have formal education (college and beyond) and are successful, some of my most successful friends did not even finish college. That being said, life is all about finding what you love that will also financially aid you to enjoy life and pursuing that. Or finding something that is doable and can fund what does make you happy in life. I encourage you to do what makes you happy but also will lead to a financially secure future!

John’s Answer

Hi Cinthya- I am going to make a few observations on your question and hopefully one lands.

Option 1. - Q. Can you stop after a Master's Degree and be successful? A. Yes! Absolutely. Many people that achieve high level positions in the corporate world do have a graduate degree, such as an MBA or similar. I would recommend that you work a bit in your preferred field after achieving your bachelor's degree before choosing a graduate program.
Option 2. - Q. Can you stop after a Bachelor's Degree and be successful? A. Yes! Many folks with undergraduate degrees are very successful- in fact some without degrees are very successful. I think the most important thing you can consider is what your passions are. If you follow what your passion is, you will always be putting your heart into your work, and then its up to you to define successful. For you it may mean, health, happiness, wealth, or any other number of things.
Option 3. - Q. Can you change your major and be successful? A. Yes! Definitely! I would encourage you to make changes to your major degree path if you feel that it is taking you down a course that is different from your desired path.
