Is it easy to have a career in forensics and build a stable family?

My mom was a teacher and always had summers off so it is important that my future kids be able to spend time with me. #forensics

Mattie, you wont have summers off. Murderers don’t take them off. As a matter of fact, the summer time is the busiest. You can be on call a lot. Which means you can be spending time with your family and all of a sudden you may have to leave. See if you can talk to crime scene techs, medical examiner investigators and the local ballistics tech. They can tell you what your life may be like. If this is what you want to do, don’t let anything stop you. You may get hired in a city with low crime. That won’t reek too much havoc on your family. Be sure to take care of yourself first.

Lee’s Answer

Yes, you can most definitely have a family while working in forensics. However, as previously mentioned, crime does not discriminate. We are the busiest during holiday seasons, and summers. I have a set 40 hours a week schedule, but that varies weekly, and seasonally. I can also get called in at any time to assist my fellow CSIs. It's extremely rewarding in itself though. Be ready to be flexible, and definitely surround yourself with understanding people.
