Hi there! Fellow singer here. The great thing is, you don't have to go to college to be a singer. I definitely encourage you to go to college, and there are some great schools for music; University of North Texas is near me and is a great one. However, unless you specifically want a degree in music performance, studying voice in college doesn't guarantee that you will find work as a singer. Also, there are plenty of private vocal coaches that you can hire to give you lessons. Honestly, I'd start with private lessons because many schools will require you to audition for the music program anyways. So you will want to prepare for that.

The real question is, what type of singing/performance are you interested in? If you're looking to join a band, you could start by searching out local bands near you that are auditioning singers. If you're interested in theater/classical, I'd recommend starting out at a small local production, get some experience and work your way up. Ultimately, your talent, and how hard you're will to work at it will determine how far you go. Having a good, humble attitude, and being easy to work with will help too!

That said, there are many jobs related to music beyond performance that can be just as rewarding. That is where I would recommend finding a school that you like and looking into a degree like music business or music education. You can still do the performance and get some experience along the way to your degree.

Best of luck!!
