Can you be employed in the military, be a fireman, and personal training at the same time?

hi, I'm a junior in high school and I want to be all three of these and wondered what professionals would think #navy #personal-training #firefighter

To work a second job while in the Navy (or any military branch) you need to get approval from your division head, or maybe just your division chief. A job as a personal trainer is very flexible, so it should not be hard to get that permission. Since you would be doing the second job near a military base, your clients would most likely either be military members or people who are well aware of how quickly your schedule can change. Let the clients know that any appointment is subject to change at any time due to military needs and they should be fine.

There is no guarantee you will get permission, but if you are a not a troublemaker, etc, I cannot see any reason why it would not be permitted.

Good luck!

Hi Seth,

Thanks for the question. It is possible to work a 2nd job while serving as an active duty military member, but remember that the military will ALWAYS take priority. In addition, you will have to seek permission to work a 2nd job which may or may not be approved (there are a lot of factors that have to be considered first).

I would encourage you to think about trying to get the best of both worlds: You could perform part-time military service via the Army National Guard or Army Reserve, the Air National Guard or Air Reserve, the Navy Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, or the Marine Corp Reserve. That way you'd still be able to pursue opportunities as a firefighter and/or personal trainer.

Thank you comment icon thank you, Mr. Fig! This great advice and I am thinking about these opportunities. You have very good advice. seth
