Inpatient/hospital
outpatient/clinic
Adult
Pediatric
Intensive care
Routine hospital ward
Obstetric / Women’s health

Additional opportunities include management as well as advanced degrees such as CRNA and Nurse Practitioner.

In addition to the above responses, there are Registered Nurses with Associate Degrees or Bachelor's degrees and this can determine what type of job you are able to get once licensed. There are also Licenced Vocational (or Licensed Practical Nurse depending on your state) nurses which is a shorted certificate program rather than a degree program. You have to take the NCLEX for all 3 levels. Both levels of RN take the NCLEX-RN, LVN or LPN takes the NCLEX-PN.

Advanced practice nurses can be NP (nurse practitioner), DNP (doctor of nursing practice), FNP (family nurse practitioner), CRNA (certified registered nurse anesthetist), CNM (certified nurse midwife), MSN-Ed(masters of science in nursing education), and many more!!!

There are MANY types of nurses out there. This is why it is such as great profession! You can be a med/surg nurse, which are nurses who work by the bedside so they are on a medical or surgical floor

There are Emergency Room nurses, either an adult ER, or pediatric ER or aER that does both (I worked in the pediatric ER for 11 years)

There are dialysis nurses, who take care of patient on dialysis

Critical Care nurses, who take care of patient who are really sick and need one on one care

Community Care nurses who work in the community

Travel Nurses who travel to different states and or countries and work in different hospitals for a short period of time

Pediatric Nurses who only take care of kids

NICU/PICU nurses who take care of really sick newborns and kids

Flight Nurse

Transport Nurse, you transport patients from one hospital to another

Infusion nurses, they start IVs and monitor a patient receiving medications
