Baker’s Answer

Puneeth,
You'll need to look for a university with a supply chain program. Many of these programs are a subset of a business school. Some indiviuals prefer to pursue a specific undergraduate field (such as nursing or engineering) and then get a masters degree in business with a supply chain emphasis.

Azeem’s Answer

This is one of the fields which is very flexible when it comes to professionals in this area. a variety of degrees can be a initial base for this , be it
Manufacturing Engg/MBA, operation research or even a general undergrad degree. Its a mix of logical understanding/thinking and coming up with creative solutions. Most imp here is that you get into a good organization and work your way up.. as an extn. you can also do small courses focused on supply chain mgmt. eg. APICs certification or IBF certification in US.. various US univ. also offer 6-12 month programs for mid level execs.

Tiago’s Answer

Hi Puneeth, here's a few subjects and programs you may want to consider to give you the academic training to begin your career and move it up from supply chain analyst (how likely you'll start, it was my case) to manager. Industrial engineering, a few business programs, and specific supply chain programs will give you a solid understanding of the end-to-end supply chain and get you ready for the job. Main subjects to consider: supply chain management, operations management, manufacturing strategy, transportation and logistics, production planning and control, sourcing and procurement - that'll give you a broad understanding of the supply chain activities and what's involved in this profession.

Tiago recommends the following next steps:

Search for top supply chain programs and look for their subjects

Joy’s Answer

Hi Puneeth, to be a supply chain firm manager, you may take business operation course to learn about the operation process and high level workflow for supply chain company, and business administration to learn about business general knowledge. Project management is also another important curriculum for a future manager to take because you will work on many projects and collaborate with team as well. Leadership also needed to be practice during learning session.

Steve’s Answer

Hello Puneeth, I would recommend you start with general business administration courses in college. Begin with Marketing (helps with stakeholder engagement), management (helps with managing people), Accounting (you will need to understand the numbers in the deals), and then as you progress with 4 year Supply Chain degree program take other courses that specialize in Supply Chain. ASU is a great supply chain college or NC State in this area.

Enjoy the journey!
