The benefits of being able to maintain and make repairs to any problems that may interfere with the daily activities of said facility is unlimited depending on your personal goals. The facility that you are providing service to is usually occupied by people like yourself who are just trying to live there best life wherever they may be. Work, home or out for entertainment, they expect for everything to work properly. This is a great service to other and very rewarding.

In addition to what Fred said, you can find work almost anywhere, If there are buildings there is a need for repair, maintenance, remodeling, etc.
There’s also the wide variety of duties requiring different skill sets in order to perform each. You may specialize in one or more, or become a generalist (covering many trades, but not to as great a level as a specific tradesman).
Specializing in a specific trade typically would rate a higher pay rate, but limit your duties to those in that field. Being more of a generalist provides a more varied list of duties, but frequently at a lower pay scale.
