I want be a researcher when I grow up! #college #engineering #researcher #career #academic-advising #career-counseling

Thank you comment icon The first question here is that in which field you want to do research? To do research in science field you can go for the IITs or IISc Bangalore. To apply for these institutes you can appear for the CSIR NET exam or UGC NET Exam. CSIR NET exam is conducted for five subjects i.e. life science, earth science, mathematical science, Physical science, Chemical Science. while the UGC NET EXam is conducted around 100 subjects. Candidates must have the masters degree with minimum 55% marks from recognized university to appear in NET exam. Check Out the complete UGC NET Eligibility criteria or CSIR NET information from the official website. Hope it will help you a little. Hi Bhavan,

Great question. Going by the list of institutes published online i would recommend you to go for IIT's .

However, if you have specific area of interests like astrophysics, algorithms and other areas specific institutes are there. Go and checkout their brochures and decide according to the courses offered by them.

Sen’s Answer

Dear Bhavan,

Great question! No doubt that IITs are the best institutes that we can boast of in terms of quality of students and their success rates across the world. Your question is Research related and thus it would have been better if you could elaborate your subject of Interest.

It goes without saying that IITs are the best but I consider IISc as the best institute for Research. I would place it even one notch higher as the entire focus is on Research. In addition, there are couple of universities specially Jadavpur University for doing research on any applied subjects in science/engineering. In fact you will find most of the professors of Calcutta University are the products of Jadavpur University. There is another group of institute which is extremely of high caliber is IISER and mostly devoted to research. In addition, you must have heard name of Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, BARC, ISRO and some DRDO labs are great places for research.

All the best!

The Indian Institute of Technology (ITT) is a myth of higher education in India. The popular saying in India is that first-class students enter the Indian Institute of Technology and second-rate students go abroad to study at the United States. Judging from its acceptance rate of less than 3%, it is indeed possible to take advantage of elite schools in the United States.

Founded in 1951, Indian Institute of Technology has seven campuses nationwide: Delhi Polytechnic Institute, Kanpur Polytechnic Institute, Kharagpur Polytechnic Institute, Madras. (Madras) Institute of Technology, Mumbai Institute of Technology, Guwahati Institute of Technology and Roorkee Institute of Technology.

In the Asian Weekly magazine's selection of the best polytechnic in Asia, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) took 5 of the 7 branch campuses in the “top half of the country”.

The popular saying in India is that first-class students enter the Indian Institute of Technology and second-rate students go abroad to study at the United States. The American "60-minute" program commentary: Adding Harvard, MIT, and Preston University is the Indian Institute of Technology's position in India.
