Theodore’s Answer

If you are wanting to go into any professional health care provider program it is important to contact the universities you are looking at and get details on their prerequisite requirement.

Decide what level of provider you wish to be:

Do you want to go into psychiatry, psychology or counselling?

In general:

Health Sciences Pre Med program with a double major or minor in psychology would be a good place to start

I would also recommend studying hynotherapy, NLP and the use of bineural beats and isochronic tones and other programs that facilitate memory and are different forms of psychological intervention.

Another program to consider that will help you with studying:

angie’s Answer

Hi, Sacha!
I am a PhD student of Depth Psychology, but also a wife and mom of two teen boys. I am a spiritual coach as well as a reiki healer. I work with my husband in our sacred yurt. We both came to healing through different ways. I am an artist and use art therapy and dream analysis to help guide my clients back to their own unique healing ways. I have also studied with shamans and teachers of healing disciplines around the world.

My husband uses food and movement to help clients heal themselves and get back to healthy basics.

There are many outside-the-box ways of gathering tools for your unique way of healing yourself and others.

My best advice it to get to know yourself. How do you heal yourself? What makes you feel better? Is it art? Singing? Meditation? Singing bowls? Being in nature? Reading? Physical activity? There are endless ways to heal the body, soul, and mind. But only you have the key to unlock your way. Figure this out, heal yourself, and then bring that out into the world.

Having many tools in your kit for healing, especially now, is greatly needed. And your unique way you see the world through your self-lense will be powerful once you understand it. Read those Psychology books, but find out what resonates within you. Then take some other classes on that specific idea or thought.

Keep going! You are on the right track.

Regina’s Answer

Hello Sacha!

Thanks for asking the question.

I agree with what Angie said. A big part of choosing this career is what resonates with you and what you are passionate about.

I am a certified mindfulness and meditation instructor and the rewarding aspect of this calling for me is to share my knowledge, watch my students adopt positive ways to deal with stress and daily struggles in life, and see the change in my students.

The health and wellness field I believe is much like planting seeds, caring, nurturing, and harvesting the harvest. It is much about you as it is about the people you will be helping.

If you want to know more about what I do, let me know. I'd be happy to do a 30 minute call with you. Alternatively, you can reach me at my website: gilasmindfulness.com

All the best,
Regina

My suggestion would be to first understand what pre-requisites are required from the university or program you are looking into to ensure you have taken all necessary courses prior to applying. Additionally, verifying if there are any standardized tests required for the application process such as SATs or GREs (depending on if this is an undergraduate degree or graduate level program).
