What subjects should I take in high school to prepare me for a nursing career?

I want to get as much of a head start as possible before going to college. I would really appreciate any suggestions anyone has! #college #nursing #high-school

Angelina, Discovernursing.com suggests the following high school courses to jumpstart pre-requisites for nursing school:
English: 4 years Math: 3-4 years (including algebra and geometry) Science: 2-4 years (including biology and chemistry; physics and computer science are recommended) Social Studies: 3-4 years Foreign Language: 2 years (recommended, but not required).

You should focus on math, chemistry, biology and college English. Latin if your school has it. If your school has a career tech school relationship with a Heslth Science program, this is great! Additionally, I recommend you do some volunteer work at a local hospital, developmental rehab, or nursing facility. Good luck!

Foreign Language: 2 years (recommended, but not required)

In addition, I would recommend volunteering at your local hospital, retirement community, skilled nursing facility... Most healthcare settings offer volunteer opportunities. Keep in mind, requirements will vary from hospital to hospital. This is an excellent way to learn more about the profession, more about different clinical settings, and network.

The classes I think are most important would be chemistry, biology, anatomy & physiology, psychology, algebra, and statistics. If your high school allows you to shadow a nurse as part of a course, I would recommend that.
I would also recommend volunteering at a free clinic or hospital.
