What kind of degree in collage would someone need to work with a History Museum?

I am a 17 year old senior that likes to socialize and learn new things every day.

A bachelor's degree in art, history, archeology, museum studies or a related field is the minimum education requirement for museum curators. My friend started as a volunteer and has worked for the Smithsonian for years and loves it. She works with donors and runs programs. She loves her job! She is a working mom and has a happy career life. Go for it!

As many answered above there are several choices. Any type of history degree would be helpful depending on what type of museum or job you work. Art history for museum with art pieces (as most museums will have some), history in general, archaeology, anthropology...etc. It would really depend on what you actually want to do in a museum. Then specialize your particular degree toward that. Some schools even have a general degree that allows you to specialize it toward some area of study. You could do that and take classes with each of the above. They usually don't require a minor as you're taking many classes in several fields. It works well for jobs like what you're looking for except if you want to be the director of a large museum. That would likely require a masters at minimum and likely some business classes.

Hi,

A bachelor is feasible, on top of volunteering . I compeleted A M.A in secondary education, specializing in history . Many of my classmates were completing the program to work in museums. The museum one of my peers worked at required her to complete a MA. Best of luck !
