What is your dream school?

Congratulations on having a dream school. Many students don't even know what they want to do let alone have a dream school. This is your north star. Keep focussed and tell as many people as you can so it is reinforced in your brain and body.
That said, I would recommend a few things based on my own experiences having attended two wonderful universities in Southern and Northern California:
- Have backups. Not one or two but at least a few. This will ensure that you are not setting yourself up for disappointment. Life is full of mysteries and every path you end up in will have both opportunities and challenges.
- If you don't get into your dream school, understand that it is not the end of the world. The person or committee judging your application does not know you well enough. Sometimes it is just luck. Your duty is to put 100% into the application process and knowing you gave it your all.
- When you do get in, understand there will be competitive people just like you and you should not get bogged down but thrive in their presence and learn from them. You may have been the smartest before you got there but you are among the best. Challenge yourself and don't rest on your laurels of having made it there.

Tamara, - dreams are relative things.
It's best not to lose the perspective that there is no one perfect school for you. Select a well-balanced list of schools and find something to love about all of them. Any college can be your dream college. Every year, there are students who feel that their lives are over if they don't get into their top choice. And what happens? Often, the school that was their second choice, their third choice, or ever their safety school becomes their "dream college," as they cannot imagine themselves anywhere else.
For me, a dream school would have the perfect combination of academics, happy students, facilities, size, location!

Answers so far are great and I would add not to limit your focus to just one school. Every school has something to offer of value and though they might not be Harvard its important to determine what exactly you are looking for and what you can offer to the school as much as the school can offer you. Meaning, fit is as important as the actual school because it will be what you do after school that matters not where you went

The name of my dream school has changed as I went through school and sought different degrees. As I ponder your question and reflect back on my own experiences my dream school is/for you a school where:
1) you succeed academically; you are actually learning and exploring
2) you succeed financially; a high amount of student loan debt is a burden
3) you succeed socially; lasting friendships, relationships and networks are made
These three aspects, and there are probably more, need to be present in any school to make it a dream school.
