Simeon’s Answer

You can use volleyball meaningfully in any of the career paths by using a volleyball scholarship to help pay for your degree. It sounds like you might like the coast guard, something involving environmental law, or possibly being a park warden/ranger.

Hello Hope!

Based on your listed interests, focusing on ocean life and environment life, mixed with criminal justice, maybe look into careers in environmental law. Or if you are more interested in the science side of things, environmental science might be an option for you or something in the field of marine biology. Another option is looking into a non-profit organization that might deal with the environment or ocean or both and see if you can start volunteering for them in order to gain some experience and have contacts in the fields you might be interested in. As far as the sports aspect, either than can remain a hobby for you or you can participate in sports if you will attend college. A career aspect might be in education to become a physical education teacher or coach. I hope some of these suggestions will help you narrow some things down. Best of luck!

Vic’s Answer

Life is a journey where you try things out, evaluate if it is for you and then make decisions based on your experience. Another added level of complexity is that you yourself will also change and what your interests and values are at one point may change and the job that you thought was meant for you no longer is. The bottom line is the idea of something being meant for you is a goal that is unrealistic. Instead reserve time for introspection to figure out what you want in life, career, etc and figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are, tie those together and figure out what careers align with such - this will set you up with more alignment in what you want that may not be something you are conscious of and tie it to a career.

Figure out what your life goals are (ie. work to fund your hobbies, work as your hobby)
Figure out what you want to learn from a job, what you value in a job
Figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are
Figure out what jobs align with your personal abilities and your personal & professional goals
Figure out what opportunities are closely available to you (ie. school network, campus recruiting, personal connections, etc)

Elizabeth’s Answer

Hi Hope!

These are some really cool interests you have. Many other students have many interests as well. Sometimes it seems like they do not puzzle well together, but you can make it work! What you will have to think about now is what you would like to focus on specifically as your major, maybe even possibly double major, minors, and other extracurriculars.

Some questions to help you see what you want to prioritize:
1. What am I interested in and see myself doing as a career/job?
2. What have I studied in high school or done as an extra curricular activity that has helped me think about this as my career?
3. What interests can I work on in a club, organization, or side program at my college?
4. How much do you want volleyball to be a part of your experience? Do you want to be on the school's official team or as an intramural (extra curricular)?

Once you do that, you can look for schools that offer great programs and hopefully also offer great financial aid packages.

Some other tips:
I noticed you have interests in environmental life and ocean life and criminal justice. If you would like to, research environmental justice to see if you would like that.
