How do I narrow down my career choices

I want to be a cop or a fireman. Im also really interested in being a real estate but i have no idea how to start it off #future #career #college

Deciding what you want to do can be challenging. Consider doing a bit of research on each of the jobs that you are interested in, including learning/training requirements, and don't be afraid to reach out directly to folks in the fields and ask specific questions if able. Important to think about what qualities of each of the job are appealing to you - security in a job, compensation, flexibility, interest and perhaps cons of the job as well. Ultimately, if you pursue one path and are not happy, you can look to change course. I think the important thing is to have a goal, and take steps each day to help you make your decision.

Do internships or mentorships!! Being in the field where the real work happens and not just hearing about fantastical experiences makes a difference. Try getting an internship one summer or working in the office as a temp job where you can see the inner workings an whether you like the environment. Also consider scheduling of these professions and the level of dedication and hardship. Understand that now a days people change careers more than once and that often they have full time jobs and part time side hustles like selling houses. Just talk to those working in the fields you are interested and look into what it really takes to do the jobs. Mostly understand though that getting a bachelor's is still going to put you ahead of the game even if the career you want doesn't require it. It can put you ahead on the pay scale by more that 5 dollars more an hour at some places. Hope that helps!!

Hi, Darnell! You're interested in some very different types of jobs. I see why it's hard for you to narrow them down. There are junior academies and programs for youths interested in becoming police officers or firefighters. They're a great way to learn more about what it would be like to do these types of jobs. Participating in these junior academies could help you decide if these are the right careers for you. You can find more information online or check with your local police and fire departments on how to sign up. In order to be a realtor, you will eventually need a license. There are online courses available. Search online or at the library to learn more about these courses--how long they take, what classes you need to take. I think that the answer to what you want to do will come to you - in the end, it's about what you see yourself doing for the rest of your life. Good luck!

Hi Darnell. Being involved in the Real Estate industry can take many forms depending on your interests and skills. Internships and side job opportunities in residential real estate sales are relatively abundant, all you have to do is go to a local real estate office and ask around or send emails to realtors on local listings (residential agents are usually very busy and need help with marketing activities). Finding someone involved with commercial real estate for an informational interview would help you learn about that world. Being a part-time residential real estate agent might allow you to pursue a career as a police officer or firefighter but you will surely be busy!
