What qualifications do I need to study hotel management?

I'm interested in hospitality majors and I want to be a hotel manager in the future. I'd love to study abroad if I can. #hotel-management

Hi Khanh - how exciting!! I love working in a hotel! There are some hotel brands and management companies out there that have internships and manager in training programs that would be a good fit for you. For example, if you get in the Hilton Manager-in-Training program, you will train at a Hilton property (or properties) and hopefully get hired on when you complete the program. I suggest you do some research online and reach out to those hotels with an existing program and get more information on qualifications and such. Good luck!!

Khanh - There are many paths to achieve your career goals. The path of least resistance is to work at a hotel and move your way up. Learn all of the elements of Hotel Management by either doing the work and/or earning your stripes as you move up the management ranks.

There is a great Hospitality Program at Cal Poly Pomona (California State Polytechnic University, Pomona) where they will teach you what you need to know to help you become successful. The Program includes working on campus to support the small hotel/hospitality center that has a fully functional restaurant/banquet facility.

I recommend doing research to determine which part of Hotel Management (i.e. small 20-100 bed entity, medium (up to 500 beds with a restaurant and gift shop or large (501+ beds with a Conference Hall and golf course). I'm sure they all have similarities and major differences (budgets, levels of training, etc).

Good luck with your career choice.
