There a wide field of classes you will take such as
HR;
Finance;
Operetion;
Economics;
Entrepeneurship;
Business Strategy

Any business school will teach you this subjects and help you develop a business mindset. This is truly important because as much knowledge and resources you have as easier it will be for you understant all the numbers behind it.
Althought business is people and influence people sometimes is not easy, because we all are different and have different backgrounds and experiences. So in between try to participate in team projects and activities that also helps you learn about leadership, coaching, communications, emphaty and relationships.
People just care about the business when they feel you care about them :D

I took a path whereby I majored in a degree that was half traditional business classes and half traditional computer science classes. This combination proved to be very advantageous as many business people are not highly tech savvy and many tech folks are not business savvy.

Hi Lydia,

I studied economics and political science... doesn't seem very businessy right?
Business is a very wide topic and often all you need is a set of core analytics skills to succeed in it. My advice would be to to take a course that includes business AND another topic as this gives you room to specialise. For example, people who are good at languages often study business and a language, as this lets them work with companies that do a lot of work in countries that speak that language. Other options are to study business and computer science, business and engineering, business and health and so on. The most important thing is that the topic interests you and that you can picture yourself working in that sector in the future.

Lastly, don't put yourself under too much pressure when making a decision. I studied economics and political science and work in business technology. Often just being passionate about a topic will be enough to get you a job in it, as long as you have the kind of core skills that you can gain from any degree in a business like field.

Regardless of what types of business classes your college requires, I would recommend taking at least one accounting class to ensure that you understand the basics of accounting and financial statements. This can be a big help regardless of your ultimate job in a finance organization.
