Scott’s Answer

Hi Nate;

Transportation is definitely a field with various types of opportunities. Without knowing exactly what type of specific role you’re interested in related to transportation I would suggest a few areas of study. If your school offers any classes on economics there my be a portion of that study that deals with the supply chain. If it provides a high level overview and explains, at east in part, it’s role in the domestic and global economy that would be great. Next I would suggest two basic skills that will definitely come in handy for the industry as a whole. Math. Now, if you’re not a math fan no worries. I’m not talking calculus. Good basic math and anything statistics oriented. Supply chain uses a lot of statistics and basic calculations. Next, good reading skills will be critical in certain roles. Depending on the position you may read contracts and other various documents, agreements, tariffs, guidelines, regulations, etc...
Good luck!!

Harvey’s Answer

Hello Nate,
Transportation is a wide field encompassing deliveries, taxis, busses, heavy haulage, aviation, rail etc. The skills you need are therefore varied but mathematics, physics and languages are potentially useful for many of them. Physics and mathematics for example would help you understand how the machinery you operate works, and how loads are measured and calculated. Good luck in your future career.
