Employers in media want to see that you have taken the initiative over the course of months or years to incorporate social media in your personal life, so they can guage how you'll apply it to the standard practices of Journalism professionals. The modern journalist is also a one-person machine. Employers want you to know how to shoot good video, capture good stills, and report the good story in addition to your social media tasks.

It sounds like a lot, but once you get in the swing of it, it's simple. With as much security as a female prospect does have in this industry, it does not typically pay well. You have to be in the industry for years before the paycheck starts looking decent.

I recommend that you contact your local news affiliate and ask if you can shadow the newsroom. You will get a decent idea of how the day-to-day works on a smaller scale. As stated, it can appear much more overwhelming than it actually is.
