In addition to the above reply, I would say that volunteering, sports, projects (school project or outside studies) always look good on a CV. It shows skills such as being a team player, being able to help others, being integrated in a community.

Hi Irene,

The best way to strengthen a resume is to put in work simply. Whether that be employment you’re being compensated for, volunteer work, or working with an organization in the field you’re interested in, merely working and putting in the time is the best way to build your resume and application. A lot of what you can do to create a good resume isn’t made in a few weeks or months but created with effort over a long period.
However, one quick way to strengthen your resume is exceptionally underrated is formatting and proofreading it countless times. Of course, grammar and spelling are essential.

However, consistency and formatting are another way to boost your resume over the competition significantly. Even things that can be viewed as frivolous such as interchanging “MD” and “M.D.” and hyphen spacing, can make your resume look cleaner, more organized, and more professional.

Additionally, you added hashtags with CVs. Many jobs in the real world prefer resumes over CVs due to the more efficient way of sharing information. I always think of CVs as a resume that includes everything professional you’ve ever done, whereas a resume is a more abbreviated version tailored to a specific position. I would suggest creating a CV that lists all of your professional and academic achievements and then using this as a template to create a shorter resume specialized to individual positions.

Best,
Anthony

My suggestions would be :

- Prepare 1 page resume and one column as this is easy to read
- If you are student keep your education first if not than professional experience
- Add some project experience/Leadership experiences you have done
- Hobbies and your interest
- Use data and add your success metrics

Show that you have a diverse range of interests and experiences by joining student organizations that interest you, as well as having a meaningful job or internship experience over the summer when you are on break from school. Additionally, the literal formatting of the resume is very important as well, as recruiters have to sometimes look a hundreds each day. Make sure that your resume is organized, easy to read, and free to typos. Having friends and career counselors give opinions on your resume is a very good idea too.

A few tips for creating a great resume:

CONTENT:
Include your name, contact information, and Address if appropriate
Add your education (School/Major/Degree program)
Only add your GPA if it is a 3.5 or ABOVE (unless required)
Add all relevant work history, typically your last two or three relevant work experiences are great
Have at least two bullets worth of info for each work experience
Add a section for any relevant volunteer or extracurricular projects or positions (President of student council/Head of advisory committee/etc.)
Add a skills section including computer skills (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and other relevant skills (Certifications, foreign languages, etc.)

STYLE:
Keep it to one page only
Keep every piece of information that isn't a bullet-description to a single line
Use dividing lines between each section
Order your resume as follows: Personal info -> Academic Info -> Work Experience -> Volunteer/Extracurricular Experience -> Skills
Add Dates to all of your experiences (Grad month and year for academic, start month/year & end month/year for each relevant experience)
All bullet-descriptions should be at least two lines
Any font size between 10-12pt is acceptable
Revise and edit as many times as necessary to eliminate all grammar and spelling errors
Use action verbs in your bullet-descriptions to showcase the active work you did.

Hope this helps!
