Does my major and minor have to relate?

I am majoring in computer science but the minor that I have now is in Asian American Studies. I see that a lot of people tend to minor in something that is relatable to the major such as an astronomy minor, math minor, or physics minor. Is it that important to minor in something that can relate to the major? #college-major #college-minor #majors-and-minors

The minor isn't as big a deal as you might think. I say it's a smart idea to get a minor in a different field. If your major and minor overlap, the minor doesn't do a lot to open your horizons and introduce you to new subject material. Plus, Asian American studies is one of those subject matters that you have better opportunities to learn about while you're in college. It's harder to educate yourself on such specialized topics, so it's good to take advantage of those classes being offered by your college while you have the opportunity.

No, but it is good to plan your major and minor according to your career, dream and passion, if not well planned the minor or major might be a waste in the long run or you just keep wandering between both. Just plan according to what you want in your career

Hi,
No, they do not have the relate at all...this is your choice. Some colleges offer a minor with just 3-4 classes in a subject so they are pretty easy to get using open elective classes or even return back to school someday to add a minor to your degree.
