There have been others that address this questions from the position of hourly paid union and non-union craftsperson's normal requirements. However, I am going to go a little further and discuss the normal requirements of senior level salaried employees such as general superintendents, project managers and project engineers, etc. The higher the level of position the more time will be expected from you, if you expect to be promoted and provided expected salary adjustments. So I would say, that from my experience, you need to look at field salary people working 45 hours per week up to 60 hours per week for executive level people. The good news is that when you look at working more than 50 hours per week you can expect to be included in bonus programs and stock options. This will more than compensate you for the extra hours and responsibilities that you are responsible for overseeing. In closing, I would say if you are a self starter, willing to learn and get the job done, construction provides very good compensation at all levels.

Hello Ivan,
My advice to you is to become an apprentice for a construction and building union in your state. Then you will be guaranteed a specific number of hours of work per week. Also being a member of a building and construction union will guarantee your promotions.
