Nicola, your question is about the subjects needed to become a CSI in a police force. If you are a police officer who performs crime scene investigations, you will need to know about photography, processing for latent prints and preserving evidence. Most of these are taught on the job. However, to get into that area faster, having the basic knowledge of photography and fingerprints is best. If your police force uses civilians as crime scene investigators, then you may need a Bachelor's degree first. Again, most CSI are taught on the job how to do the actual processing. Photography is basically the only thing you really need to know how to do before getting into CSI work. You will receive advanced training but the basic knowledge needs to be there before hand.

How do you become a CSI in South Africa?

In order to set up your career, you will need to complete your matric with preferably high marks in Biology, Science, and Mathematics. The only exception to this rule is for those that wish to complete the National Certificate in Forensic Science with at least 8 years of experience in the field.
