Depends on where the school is chartered. Some states/municipalities require all teachers to be certified, but others may grant emergency or temporary certifications for high demand subjects like math and science.
It depends on the state and what the demand is at the current time. Sometimes in Texas they will even hire non-licensed teachers to teach in public schools if the demand is great enough.

According to me teaching is not a job, it is a service towards your society,nation. If you want to serve others,you don't need to acquire any position.
