Hi Eva! To ultimately get into medical school, you should consider a "pre-med" major, which will probably be biology or chemistry. Expect to have (I think) three semesters of calculus, which will allow you to comprehend the really advanced classes for either biology or chemistry. For the first 4 or 5 semesters, you'll have 1-2 electives each quarter in the humanities (English composition, history, music appreciation, etc) plus the basic level courses of your major. But then you'll get into the thick of your major in your sophomore/junior years. Also, you will need to be strong going in with your math. Otherwise, you'll have to take algebra and precalculus before getting started with calculus, and that could hold you up later when you're trying to get into the meat of the bio or chem classes. Start with getting solid with math; then get into the rest of the curriculum. Good luck!

It depends on what you mean by "medicine". Are referring to medicine in a medical doctor sense or in a pharmacist sense? Chemistry and biology would be pretty standard classes to take in high school for either or. If your leaning towards pharmacy, you can always look into becoming a pharmacy tech after high school or jumping into a pre-pharmacy program to become a pharmacist.

Pick a major that interests you so you don't mind devoting a majority of your hours to studying. You will need to get good grades in college in order to apply for medical school. At the medical school I attended, the average GPA is reported to be 3.85, so even one or two B's can hurt your chances of acceptance.
Aside from this, any major is acceptable as long as you complete the prerequisite courses. I chose to major in biochemistry because there was overlap with the premed requirements and I wanted to complete my degree in 3 years.
Typical medical school prerequisites include:
Biology: Lecture – 4 semesters; Lab – 1 semester
General Chemistry: Lecture – 2 semesters; Lab – 1 semester
Organic Chemistry: Lecture – 2 semesters; Lab – 1 semester
Biochemistry: Lecture – 1 semester
General Physics: Lecture – 2 semesters; Lab – 1 semester
Math: Statistics – 1 semester
English: Rhetoric (Composition) and Literature – 2 semesters
