That's a tough questions since working in your own restaurant could mean you don't earn any salary. I will really depend on how well the restaurant does. Just as a side note https://www.indeed.com/career/chef/salaries/LA says the avg. salary in Louisiana is $19.36/hr.

Historically, restaurants are one of the toughest businesses to succeed in. https://www.foodindustry.com/articles/what-is-the-failure-rate-for-us-restaurants/ Depending on what statistics you want to believe https://www.restaurantowner.com/public/Restaurant-Failure-Rates-Recounted-Where-Do-They-Get-Those-Numbers.cfm most restaurants fail for a variety of reasons within a few years.

Hi Kiondria,

The question is back to you, how successful would you like your restaurant to be?

It is your own restaurant, you are running the restaurant to make a profit.

Every business has a good chance to make profit, but you have to spend the effort to do the research, control your food cost and labor, making delicious food, and have great network with all your customer.

Operating any business if not an easy task, but it is up to you how to make it a successful one.

All the best,

Junnie

Remember, your location matters...
The salary you can expect as a chef in Louisiana can vary quite a bit, depending on a few things like your experience, where you're working, and the kind of place you work at. As of April 2024, chefs in Louisiana are making about **$49,447** a year on average¹. But, salaries can range anywhere from **$42,695** to **$58,212**¹. Some folks also talk about an hourly rate, with chefs making around **$16.00** an hour on average².

Keep in mind, these numbers can change depending on what's going on with the job market and the economy. Chefs who have special skills or work at fancy restaurants might make more than the average. If you're thinking about becoming a chef or want to talk about your salary, it's a good idea to look at the most recent data and think about what you bring to the table and where the job is.
