How should I get involved in political campaigns when I get to college?

How should I get involved in political campaigns when I get to college. I am a senior in high school and I am looking to pursue the political science field and want to become a lawyer. I love my AP Government class and learning about our history and the Constitution.

Good question.

First: AP classes may be informative, but there's nothing like being on the ground.

Most colleges offer a range of political groups. I would do a "taste test" and see what appeals to you, re political beliefs and what the group is involved with. There will probably be many chances to become politically involved either with a political party or some some group trying to forward a political position on a particular topic.

It will be a good chance to explore your own political and issue beliefs. And develop your political thoughts.

Why wait? You can start getting involved now. You can always research your local candidates for offices and contact their campaigns and let them know you would like to volunteer. You can learn a lot, and it would look great to have community involvement on your resume! Local politics is a great start, whether it is for mayor, state representative, judge or local school board member. Find the right candidate that reflects your values , and possibly someone who might have experienced a career as a lawyer. You've got this; don't wait!

Political campaigns are always lookign for volunteers. So whenever you find someone who you like, support, and want to offer your time to, ask how you can help. People with money will donate money, you can donate time.
