What is the best way to take notes?

I take notes mostly on my journal but find myself looking back at them and realizing they are not clear enough to understand what I learned. Is there any other efficient way to take good notes? #help #notes

Hi Reyna, Mainly you need to take notes in a way that will best convey the information for others to understand or that will help you recall the important points and what they mean. I scribe for many of the various projects I work on within my organization and I find a combination of bullet points to organize my thoughts under the various topics being discussed and then additional descriptive words or even sentences will help me to convey the materials to others.

It depends largely on what kind of classes and teachers you have. Maybe one of these tricks can help you.

1. If the teacher constantly uses a powerpoint, ask for a copy of the powerpoint before class. Print out the thumbnails, and write notes along side the slide for which it is given. This way, you aren't spending all your time copying the powerpoint words, and instead can focus on notes from what the teacher is saying.

2. If the lesson is mostly verbal, ask your teacher if you can record it. Most don't mind, especially if they know it is to help a student who is trying to do better in their class.

3. Share a google word doc with another student in the class. If you both take notes in the word document at the same time during the class, you will catch more of the information.

4. Review your notes immediately after class, fill in any gaps, and ask questions to your teacher right away- BEFORE YOU LEAVE.The information will still be fresh. Then, review your notes again that night. Make any additional comments or notes to help you remember what each item was about, and write down any questions you still have.
