What are some of the best careers for people who love to travel?

Growing up abroad I feel I like I can't stay in one place too long, but how and which careers are suited for this kind of work? And where can one look for jobs like these?

Great question! I will say, spending 5 years in the Army led me to the Middle East, Europe, South America, and a couple of different states. It may not sound like a glamorous career but enlisting will give you resources, experience, and travel that you would never get in the civilian workforce.

Also consider travel agency, airline, travel insurance & assistance - all careers which speak to folks - like me - who love to travel. I've been in all of them, have traveled/lived all over, and never been bored.

Something you could also consider is looking into specific companies. So many businesses work internationally and also send their workers to these places depending on the position. You could pick a specific job that would consist of traveling on a daily basis, or you could look at companies that have locations all over the world. With this option, you can stay in a place for 2-3 years and move on to another location after that time. There are many positions within sales, marketing, engineering, and more so make sure to also keep your interests in mind.

Have you considered jobs working in the federal government? There are several government agencies that offer worldwide employment. Of particular note and two that I have personal experience with are U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and U.S. Department of State. If you are interested in foreign aid and development work, then USAID would be the better option as they are primarily responsible for administering civilian foreign aid and development assistance. If you are more interested in foreign policy, then the State Department would be the better option.

The State Department has several internship and exchange programs for both high school and college student to allow them to experience first-hand U.S. foreign policy and diplomacy at work and explore various careers. Both State Department and USAID have a wealth of information on their websites regarding careers. I would highly encourage you to visit both of them and check out the various programs, jobs and benefits of each one. The Statement Department will probably offer more opportunities for travel as they operate 294 diplomatic missions across the world and USAID has missions in over 100 countries. Both also offer jobs in the business functions as well (i.e. management, human resources, finance, etc.).
