What are some good colleges to apply to for dentistry?

I am a sophomore in high school and I am looking into attending college for dentistry. UMKC is my top choice due to the close location and outstanding dentistry program. UMKC is a really great school to study dentistry, but I also want other options and backup plans ready. I live in Kansas City and would love some incite to other great schools to choose from. #college #dentistry #dentist #dental-hygienist #dental #dental-school

Hi, I wanted to give you some information and an answer. I am not a dentist or even in the field but there are associations for most professional careers that can offer great information for you. Above is a link to a dental association and some schools of dentistry.
Good luck! :)

Thank you comment icon All these accredited schools will train you and make you eligible for licensure exams anywhere in the U.S. The usual caveats apply--going to a school in a part of the country where you think you may wish to end up living will make things easier if you eventually practice there. Dental schools are very expensive. Those that are part of a state university will be somewhat less so--especially if you reside in that state. Steven Bornfeld

You can get into dental school from any college, if you have a high grade point average, excellent recommendations, and some unusual out side of school activities in your record, with demonstration that you know you want dentistry (You work one summer for your own dentist for example or for a dental research company). The colleges associated with dental schools are probably your best bet to get into their school however. You will have to take the DAT's, Dental Aptitude Test and have the scores on hand when you apply. You can take the DAT's more than once, to submit your higher score. Know that you can get into medical school more easily than dental school, there are more places that teach medicine than dentistry. You can always transfer after your second year to your preferred school, although any school that accepts you will want to discourage you from leaving. NYU is always accepting late applications because it is extremely expensive compared to most other schools. They will happily set you up with student loans to pay their tuition. If you don't get into a dental school on your first round of applications, applying to MPH programs that will give you a curriculum of sciences whose credits you can transfer to dental school is one possible back door, or from any other MSci program you could reapply in the next year to the dental schools of choice. There are many options but go in tightly focused on what you want and why you want it and why you think you will be good at it! Good Luck!
