Michael’s Answer

It really depends on what level the actor/actress is at. High level productions will always have stunt people on set to handle anything that can be remotely dangerous. Even something seemingly small like falling out of bed is done by a stunt person because they can't threaten shutting down production for a potential injury. Some high level actors like Tom Cruise will insist on doing their own stunts, but most people aren't on that level. Small productions can't afford the extra budget for stunt people so the actors need to do all the work and just try to be safe. Depending on the production, some films can definitely pose a threat. It is generally good practice for actors/actresses to take a few stunt classes to learn how to fall and take hits properly. These courses can pay huge dividends on their resume as well because being stunt trained could separate you from another actor who isn't trained.
