I wish to go to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. I first want to go to city college for general courses then transfer but I also would like to study abroad. My question asks if I were to transfer after my second year, am I able to go study abroad on year three. #study-abroad #college

Hi there. It is possible to complete community college coursework and transfer to a larger university to study abroad. A lot of students study abroad in their third year. A good was to ensure you'd be eligible for this is to confirm what study abroad programs are available at your target university and if they will match up with your current degree tracking. Specifically, reach out to the study abroad department of the university you'd want to study abroad from to let them know your interest and plans to study abroad in third year.

Yes, definitely (in most of the cases). But, you won't necessarily be admitted into third year. That would depend on the credit hours/courses that you've already covered in your college and the college abroad that you intend to take admission in. So, your first step should be to check the website of that specific college or contact the admission office to see that. A friend of mine completed her first year of BBA in Pakistan, then transferred to a university in Canada, but she had to start from the scratch there because none of the courses she studied in Pakistan were in the degree outline of Canadian university. So, you must get to know about the course outline of the college that interests you to avoid such issues.
Another option is to go for semester exchange program. In that, you'd get to take a few courses abroad while savoring the cultural experience. Checking if the courses of both universities align, is important in this case as well if you want no time gap in the total duration of your degree.
