This is a great question. I would first think about a topic you have a lot of knowledge about and is also a topic that would draw readers in. As an example, I wrote an article about Bon Jovi asked on personal opinion. Nothing negative, but a short story about how they’ve evolved over the years and still play well. Writing your opinion on a topic can help bring debate in a healthy way. Other topics can be domestic such as cooking, clothing, family issues. The list goes on. Also consider what the magazine stands for , what they are trying to sell, and what the outcome and expectations are. Just start by writing and let the words flow, then come back and read how it sounds. A second set of eyes can also help give feedback. Topics are endless and so is the creative process.

Hi! So firstly, you need to find a topic you're interested in writing about and a magazine that takes that type of work. (You can do a basic Google search, make a submittable account, or reach out to people who might know like local schools or writings groups. I grew up in Richmond, VA and there's an association there called Richmond Young Writers which is really helpful, so maybe you can find something like that. I'm also in college and I always send my work to my professors to get feedback before I send it to publishers and get their opinions of where to submit. So having people like that around to help you can make the process so much faster and easier.)
Make sure your article is very well-researched, and you should send it to anyone you know who might have experience with article writing to get feedback before you send it anywhere. Make sure you read the requirements for wherever you're submitting your article. Oftentimes, if you don't follow their exact guidelines, they won't even look at your submission. That's one of the biggest pieces of advice.
Feel free to submit to multiple places and don't get discouraged if your first choice rejects your article, or if they take forever to get back to you. Sometimes, it takes publishers months to read a submission.
Good luck!

Normally my advice would be to just write and let everything sort itself out. But in this case, you need to do a little more. For instance, you need to know what type of material the magazine features, what they specialize in, and whether it's your cuppa tea or not. After that, it's a matter of finding the right mental gear and shifting into motion. If it's something you know something about then great, your research will be added info for the reader. If it's not, then it's a good chance to learn more and broaden your repertoire.

So honestly, writing for a magazine is all about knowing what you're writing and how much research you'll need to do to keep your facts straight. Otherwise...just write.
