youll need to excel in college and complete a bachelors degree (typically around 4years) then enroll in and excel in medical school (4 years). After that you need to either match into and complete either (1) a categorical cardiothoracic surgery residency (6 years) or (2) a general surgery residency (5-7 years) followed by a cardiothoracic fellowship (3 years I think). It’s a long road but well worth it if that’s your passion. Hope that helps.

4 years of college. In the US, to apply to medical school, you need a bachelor's degree. Any 4-year university should suffice.
Pick a major that interests you so you don't mind devoting a majority of your hours to studying. You will need to get good grades in college in order to apply for medical school. At the medical school I attended, the average GPA is reported to be 3.85, so even one or two B's can hurt your chances of acceptance.
Aside from this, any major is acceptable as long as you complete the prerequisite courses.

4 years of medical school.
5 years of general surgery residency.
2 years of cardiothoracic surgery fellowship
