Residency: Long hours at the hospital with continued need to read and study.

Practice: You finally feel like you know everything about your field but are then expected to learn about the business of medicine.

Anticipate that the business dynamics of medicine would change drastically if the US ever switched to a Medicare For All system. This new model is more like socialized medicine and would certainly present some significant challenges to what we are accustomed to.

Staying current on medical treatments and information is a challenge. Fortunately, continuing medical education is mandatory in most fields to maintain board certification status. In Ob/gyn, for example, a list of articles is published every year with pertinent information and with up to date treatment recommendations. Fortunately, the internet allows doctors to stay current as well.
