What would be a smart minor for someone planning to major in neuroscience? And would there be room to double major in a related field?

While giving my choice of major a thought, it occurred to me that it may be a smart idea to minor in some other field, such as a language or business. Any thoughts? #college #college-major #college-minor #neuroscience #double-major

Hi there, this is an excellent question! It is great that you are already thinking about ways to strengthen your educational foundation for future career opportunities. I majored in Neuroscience and absolutely love this area of study. I have found that the field is leaning towards handling, manipulating and analyzing large data sets. My suggestion would be to minor in a technical field such as statistics, computer science, data science, computer programming, biostatistics, etc. This will provide a solid foundation for you to be able to perform sophisticated data analysis which is a transferable skill that many companies value. Additionally, if you ever decide to transition out of neuroscience in the future, your computing/technical minor will enable you to easily move between fields. Good luck and enjoy your studies!

Having a minor is really helpful. Essentially, a good percentage of minors can benefit you as a candidate. For example, if you're interested in a language, that can make you a better candidate for a job because you can communicate to another group of people that may want to see the work or take part of the services you provide. If you have an English minor, that can make you a better writer, which is really essential for research work, especially research papers. Science minors can enhance your understanding in your major, and likely make it easier to learn the material but also have a deeper understanding in your work. Math minors, as mentioned in the previous comment, can help you form data analysis that many companies want to see.
