What does and engineer (both in and out of college) go through on a daily basis from waking up to going to bed?

I would like to see what an engineer goes through a day, what they do on a regular basis, how they handle things, etc. #college #engineering #career #mechanical #company #texas

Hi Jesus, I'm going to give you some examples from the computer software industry, where I work. This is typically what my weekdays look like:
1) Three days a week I go to the gym at 7 AM to keep in shape :-)
2) The first four days of the week, I participate in a "stand-up status meeting" with our local and off-shore teams and manager, via Internet conferencing. Our teammates and manager help each of us understand the work we have to focus on for that day and the week.
3) I arrive at the office mid-morning. I check the status of our website services and any emails from the last 12 hours to see "What's happening?"
4) I work on my personal assignments plus attend one to three meetings during the day (where we collaborate with other teams to accomplish "big picture" jobs).
5) I prepare the documentation, monitor the execution, and test the results of putting software features and updates on our website (we call it "pushing to production")
6) I perform some software testing every day, to verify that our software is bug free and works as expected.
7) I write automated tests in Python or keyword based languages.
8) Sometimes I have to monitor or catch up with tasks in the evenings or weekends from home. Not always, but occasionally.
That's it in a nutshell; hope this helps!
Thank you comment icon Hello Jesus, I just started working in the Aerospace industry. I get to work around 7:15 ish AM. I then start checking emails and work on paper work. Nothing too complicated. I wrote reports and get to lear about the aircrafts. I work on several different tasks like making drawings and finding similar components for different air crafts. I do more paper work again very very relaxed. I attend a few meetings and back to paper work. No one is really rushing you but there dead lines. By 3:30 I go home. Some days I mentor robotics! I also have plenty of time to attend the gym. I enjoy time with my girlfriend and at night I’m Usually snacking or trying to learn how to code. Good luck!:) Benneth Perez

Hi Frank - I studied Integrated Systems Engineering and now work as an IT Project Manager in tech industry.

The typical workday in college --
(1) Wake up to prepare and study for any exams or quizzes
(2) Morning & Afternoon: Attend classes on campus
(3) Early Evening: Classes with labs a few times a week OR relax time
(4) Late Evening: Homework and Studying for exams
Engineering is a challenging major - but very rewarding. You will learn to think differently and will see the world through a different lense.

My typical workday now as an IT Project Manager --
(1) Wake up early for check-in meeting with my team around the globe
(2) Morning: Constructive meetings to make progress on the key program deliverables
(3) Lunch: Take a 30 min break to reset
(4) Afternoon: Individual work time & 1:1 meetings to build relationships
(5) Leave early to beat the traffic!
(6) Final check of email and connect with team around the globe
My job is about tracking progress through connection and aligning ideas to make progress. I use engineering to think differently and help my team solve the problems they're looking to solve. I bring a new perspective that others may not have thought of.
