Is having a sense of moral accountability important in the entertainment industry?

With the many movies, tv movies, and social media we often times see artist conforming to the negative ways of society. I know that it may not be intentional but a lot of times artist and celebrities do things that aren't exactly moral in order to keep the fame #photography #theatre #actor #television #singer #radio #films #model

I think there are a lot of pop culture icons that do what you are saying but there are also very many principled artists who are not. In the end focus on you and what makes you happy and find artists that share your interests and ideals. Lastly there are many artists who brood and have had a lot of anguish, they feel their art is their outlet. I think it's worth respecting art you may not like and disagree with while still respecting their human journey. You can always respect something but you don't have to like it.

Hi Malcolm! This is a fantastic question. Just like all aspects of life, I think having a personal moral code is incredibly important for working in the entertainment industry. It's important to recognize that what this looks like will differ from person to person. For example, one celebrity might feel confident in performing in the nude where another may not. When you're talking about the negative ways of society, it's important to consider that the celebrities often aren't in control over the narrative of the film or TV show that they are acting in and, in some cases, might only be aware of their own small part within the larger story. While some people have the privilege to walk away from work that doesn't align with their own moral code, other people need to take work that they might not fully support in order to pay their bills. For me, one of the ways I feel that I can make a small change is to choose not to see films or TV shows that don't align with my own moral code.
