Check out salary.com as this will also vary based on where you practice and what it is you are doing. The term psychologist is insanely general, its like saying doctor- there are literally dozens of types that require a variety of specialized training.
Generally speaking, psychologists can do well but face lowering reimbursement from medical insurance companies and this is a constant issue unless you find yourself practicing for cash only (wealthy areas).
You can make a good living in the field depending on who you work for and how many hours you put in.
Do the math, if you see a client and charge 125 but you only get 70 from insurance. 70 bucks for an hour sounds wonderful but you have to factor in all of your expenses if this is your own practice- rent, utilities, marketing, etc. Paying for your own health insurance, etc.
Check out as many of these variables before you settle on something.

Psychologists get paid different amounts depending on where they work. In the VA, they go by the GS guidelines which is structured. You can look it up on line “general schedule” pay for psychologists. Same schedule is used for the armed services. Government pay can get you up to $109,000. At GS 13-10 level. If you run a clinic you make more at GS 14 If you teach at university you make ~ $88,000. Private practice maybe $97-159,000 if work hard. You need to consider benefits and costs of each job. GS schedule work 8 hrs/day not on call, 1.5 mo vacation and federal holidays off. Teaching take summer off with no pay. Private practice- all time off with no pay.
