Whatever you want to do, see if there are volunteer opportunities in the field now. So for music, see if there is a way to help in music lessons for younger kids after school. That way you can add it to your resume. Plus donating your time always shows passion and devotion. Look into a college with a great education department and art department and major in minor in both so you can pursue that dream.

I would talk to your current band teacher and ask them how they got to the position they are now. It will require you going to school but being a band teacher doesn't necessarily mean you have to major in education. I would start volunteering or shadowing some teachers or band teachers (in or out of school) to see what it is like "behind the scenes". Being a teacher looks completely different when you are the teacher compared to what you see when you are a student.

It's great that you want to become a teacher. I agree with the comments you've received at this point. Here are some additional ways for your consideration.

• Ask your favorite teacher if you could chat before or after school about the profession. You may want to have a good list of questions available. Take notes and follow-up
• Volunteer as a teacher assistant at your local church. This will provide you good insights into dealing with a small or large number of students, preparing and putting together material and presenting to the class. You will learn how to answer questions, discipline when required, etc.
• Check with your school to see if they know of any volunteer opportunities where you could shadow a teacher
