Hi Shantrell! As a current junior in college, I think there are many things that can play a major role while going to college! My first advice would be to get INVOLVED! Whether it's in athletics, student government, pre-nursing/pre-med society, greek life, etc. These are all important student organizations that will allow you to take on leadership positions and gain skills you will use in your career down the road! Another aspect that plays a major role while going to college is time management! Make sure to balance your responsibilities and make appropriate time for each of your commitments. Personally, using a planner and Google Calendars really helps me stay organized and stay on track! I wish you luck in your college education & your career path!

Hi Shantrell! I'm a current senior at Georgetown University and there are lot of things that play a major role. First and foremost, care for yourself. Make sure you eat right, exercise, get enough sleep, and spend time with friends. It's easy to get swept away by classes and clubs so it's important to make time for yourself. Beyond that, make sure you are constantly meeting new people and making new memories!

Rachel’s Answer

Hi! I'm currently only a freshman in college but so far, I've found that finding a routine that works for you is really helpful to stay on top of school work and being able to balance other extracurriculars as well. Time management was really hard for me at the start of the school year so I think finding that groove is important and once you are more settled into college, try and join a few clubs and get involved!

Kenan’s Answer

Shantrell,
First and foremost, find the system that works best for you! For example, some people are more efficient if they take notes by hand, others are more efficient if they take notes by computer. After you pin down a system that best works for you, make sure to always stay on top of all assignments and get involved with activities that interest you. Doing so will help you find friends with similar interests and allow you to explore interests that you wouldn't be able to explore in your classes.

Many points to stay successful in college:

-Time Management: learn to prioritize your responsibilities and assignments.

-Commit study time and stay distraction free.

-Stay involved: Whether it’s extracurricular activities, or staying after class to ask your classmates or professor a question.

-Stay in touch with your class advisor/financial aid office: they will save you time and money by avoiding classes you don’t need to take, optimizing your class schedule, and helping you look for scholarship and financial aid services

Deijana’s Answer

College is all about the real-life independent experience where you can learn the tools and grow as an adult and individual to succeed in the world. As far as the curriculum in college, you should find the job or industry you're most interested in and work backwards to learn what major you should declare in order to follow that path.
