Why do spectators play a very important role in the sports entertainment industry?
I know when it comes to merchandise you need fans to purchase things and for support, but other than that, what makes them so important? I'm just curios to know. #experience #curiosity

Love your curiosity! First, spectators bring revenue to that sport. Not only physically in game but also through broadcasts. Secondly, spectators bring energy to the game and support for their particular team they are cheering for and want to win. Players get hyped having fans in arenas, on the field and in stadiums, etc.

Advertisements! The super ball has the most expensive TV AD slots in the USA. It all revolves around the fans and how many views it gets.

Hey Rosemary I work in NBA Retail and spectators are more than just customers for merchandise.
They buy the tickets, so there is ticket revenue.
They see our partners ads and drive business to them, which then ensures we maintain a positive relationship with all of our partners. This ads additional revenue through partnership agreements.
When they buy a team's product and go out wearing it, they become another form of advertising by getting the logo out into other people's view. This is important because if someone had a great experience at a game or event, they are more likely to tell other people about it and take someone new to a game with them.
In addition, several coaches and players have said that having a home crowd behind the team helps keep the morale of the team high. This could help the team win a close game because the crowd gave them an edge.
