Hello David! Based on my research , Carpenters made a median salary of $48,330 in 2019. The best-paid 25 percent made $63,050 that year, while the lowest-paid 25 percent made $37,140.

According to Indeed.com, one of the leading job search websites, the average salary of a carpenter in the US is $21.49/hr, at 40 hours, equates to $44,700 before Taxes/Overtime.

According to ZipRecruiter, the average starting salary for a dermatologist in the US is $43,285/yr.

Hi David

There are some good answers already to your question but I wanted to add the Union labor aspect. I took a brief look into your area and it seems the Carpenter Union is Local 59. If you were to decide to go into the union as a Carpenter they can average a higher wage. The union is not for everyone but they usually have great benefits and a lot of different options as a Carpenter.

I suggest you take a look at the local union and there should be good information starting with apprenticeship programs.

Here is a brief breakdown on Carpenter Prevailing Wages, normal residential carpenters may not make this hourly wage.
Journeyman Carpenter - 2013 was $47.07 and Apprenticeship level was $24.19 to $45.09 depending.
