I think the most important first step for you is to work for an entrepreneur. The role is not easy, though it is rewarding and allows you control of your destiny. But first, if you expose yourself to possible mentors and to something that interests you, then you’ll learn whether entrepreneurship and that industry are worthwhile for you to pursue. You can use the time not only on developing skills and knowledge, but also to save money. That is critical so you have money to invest and also a fallback if times are lean. Think about what you’ve enjoyed doing or learning about. That’ll give you some direction. Go forward and make the world a little (or a lot) better! 😉

Being an entrepreneur can be an incredibly rewarding experience, as well as an incredibly stressful one. Having done four starts (with friends from college), I couldn't imagine doing anything else. I moved from the corporate world into the startup world about 10 years into my career, and I think having that experience was very valuable and contributed to my success as an entrepreneur. Certainly not a requirement, and if you've got the idea, the passion and the resources, go for it.

A key factor for me was the team. It's very hard to go it alone when building your own business, but make sure you surround yourself with people you can trust and are willing to go through tough times with. Because there will inevitably be tough times in the growth of any startup business. Many friendships have ended as a result of the stress of starting a business together, so choose your partners carefully. :-)
