Luisa’s Answer

Hello Nathan,

First try to find scholarship in your areas. Like someone said, check the local newspapers, but also use google since most newspapers publish their news online nowadays. Also, there are many good websites that are legit and just ask you to complete an essay and email school transcripts. To play if safe, look for .org websites, but I've gotten scholarships from .com websites. Just make sure you're not providing SSN or any other personal information.

Some websites that I've used before:
https://studentscholarships.org/
https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/pay-for-college/bigfuture-scholarships
https://bold.org/scholarships/easy-scholarships-list/

And also, many of the school that you're thinking of applying have scholarships that you have to apply separately or the financial aid will grant based on several prerequisites. Lastly, if you apply early to a school, they will consider you for scholarship (advantage of applying early).

Precious answers focus on how to search for scholarship.

My suggestion would be to focus on your scholarship application details as well. Remember you will be completing with other applicants. Scholarships in general are financial hardship or academic grades based. Additionally scholarship requires applicants to showcase activities outside your school curriculum.

Strong grades and volunteer activities will help to prepare a robust scholarship application.

Great question! Scholarships in general are hard to get but that should not discourage you to try find as many as you can. The best strategy I have seen is applying to as many small scholarships as possible. They will add up. There are $500, $1000, $2000 to $10,000 scholarships that you can apply with or without essay. You can go into 'Fastweb Scholarships' fastweb.com and apply to as many as you can. I think you just need endurance in this process. Also think of other ways to pay for college too. Like starting out at community college to save money, see if there are opportunities in going to the Service, local scholarships etc
Also check the school and the department you want to attend to if there are department specific merit scholarships. I know it’s a lot of work but you got this. Good Luck!

Jerel’s Answer

Some scholarships for college are merit-based. You earn them by meeting or exceeding certain standards set by the scholarship-giver. Merit scholarships might be awarded based on academic achievement or on a combination of academics and a special talent, trait, or interest. Other scholarships are based on financial need. You can learn about scholarships in several ways, including contacting the financial aid office at the school you plan to attend and checking information in a public library or online.

Hi Nathan L. Scholarship hunting...fun times :D.

I also encourage you to take a look at your local newspapers. May sound weird but...I have seen where local newspapers will announce scholarships that graduating seniors have gotten. When you learn about them, you can place them on your radar to apply when you are ready to being your scholarship searches.

Hope you find this helpful and best of luck to you!

Mary’s Answer

The first thing I would do is check with your high school guidance counselor, they should know everything available that your school participates.
secondly, I would go online and search national and state scholarships and then I would also look for grants for education you might fall into a category depending on family income etc. etc.

Mary recommends the following next steps:

I would also look online for organization that sponsor scholarship programs
