As best I can tell, the average starting pay for an AE is $75k across the US. However, the big thing to understand is that an average is only that ... an average. Thus, there are going to be plenty of starting jobs below that (mostly depending on the cost of living for your State/city) and plenty above that (again usually tied to where you live). Thus if you live in GA, the starting pay may be $10k less or in Seattle it will be $10k more but in either location you will not notice the difference in reality.

From there, your salary will depend more on your career path and choices more than on where you live. Some jobs are harder to get into and others are hard to get promoted. Some have great starting pay but then they are slow to advance you through the ranks. Some pay minimal at first and then once you show your value, have room for big bonuses and raises. Like any other career path, going into management usually brings more $ but don't sacrifice a great job just to make a few more bucks. If you can have both then congrats, you have hit the jackpot.
