What is your day to day like in the store?

Having worked in several different retail environments in various roles throughout my career, I can say that there's a lot to love about retail if you're a "people person", and enjoy being part of a dedicated team. Daily tasks vary greatly, depending on the type of store and the role you're fulfilling. The number one thing that always takes precedence over everything else is customer service. Customers are the reason for every retail store's existence, and it's every employee's job to meet their needs. If you love serving others, this will be easy and fun for you. Memorizing product features, benefits and limitations, and making recommendations is usually a large part of customer service and sales work. Excellent listening skills are crucial to making sales. Management positions must juggle many responsibilities, with the greatest portion of time spent on managing employees. A willingness to learn positive leadership skills is very important to success in this area. Creating and retaining a highly functioning team can be a difficult but rewarding task if you enjoy supporting the growth and goal making of others. Generally, managers and assistant managers wind up working extra long hours in order to accomplish all that is needed to succeed in a retail operation.

As a Retail Leader for over 25 years it is important to start out by saying the wonderful thing about retail is everyday can be different and you never stop learning.

Your day in a retail environment should always start from the previous day. Meaning planning is a key component for every successful retail leader.

My days always started with an understanding of what needed to be done.

Every organization will have its own “task” list from counting money to sweeping the floors.

But after the tasks is where you become a leader that impacts the profits of that business. As a leader you will be expected to lead your team, be hands on, assign tasks, and drive results for the company.

Hope this helps. There is really no exact answer because every company or retail sector has variances.
