What careers options exist for someone who has a bachelor's in math and a MBA?

I feel that this education path would combine my two major interests (math and business). If anyone's out there who has this degree combination, I'd really appreciate your advice!

Would you interest in work in Finance areas? You can consider to work in Banks, e.g.
1. Financial Markets - The Trading Desk always require the talents having good financial model skills with business knowledge
2. Investment Banking - It requires good maths and financial in M&A, IPO, etc.
3. Research department in Banks
Other than banks, you can also consider to develop your career in Brokers/Dealer, Funds, Private Equity, etc.
I suggest you can do find out more on the openings in the financial institutions. Their career portal offers a good source of information on the talent requirement.

As someone with a similar background (undergrad in Math + Econ, MBA four years later), I can say that this combination gives you a lot of different opportunities to pursue. In particular, there are a lot of roles in finance that might be relevant for you (Investment Banking, Trading, Accounting, Corporate Finance, Actuary, Underwriter, Research Analyst). In addition, roles in data science or analytics might be a potential path; These roles exist at many different types of companies, but technology companies probably feature them most prominently. I am sure there are lots of other roles that might be a good fit, but those two areas I am most familiar with. Hope that helps!

Hi Genevieve. In addition to the options Rebecca suggested, I might also look into becoming an actuary, which is a business profession that does not actually require an MBA but does require strong math skills.

Hey Genevieve!

There's definitely opportunities out there for your example! Many organizations, no matter what industry they are in, are looking for individuals who are analytical/numbers oriented that also have a 'business' mindset. Obtaining skills to gather important numbers/data/information and turn it into a story with actionable tasks is highly sought after.

Totally made up scenario/job: Senior Business Analyst for a Pharmaceutical Company. This role would help build the processes and systems to gather large quantities of qualitative and quantitative data from clinical trials, patients, healthcare providers, etc. to determine current performance and forecast future growth. A math background coupled with an MBA would allow this person to excel in something like this (even though I completely made this up).

I would suggest you do a quick search for positions in Finance, Business Insights, Business Analytics, Strategy and Planning, Market Research, and Business Operations to see what companies and organizations are looking for as far as experience goes. You will also be able to take a deep dive into the job responsibilities to see if they align with what you are hoping for in a prospective career. Hope this helps!

I think you will have many options, but wanted to mention that I think analytics is a great option to consider. Business Analyst, Data Analyst or maybe even something in artificial intelligence analytics.
