Colleges are supposedly the best of your lives. Thoughts?
I've heard that college is a time for hard work but great fun. What is your personal experience with this?

I had a great time during my time in college back in my home country. However, I transferred to the U.S. and had an entirely different experience. Now, as a young adult professional out of college, I am also having the time of my life. It's what YOU make out of it, but college years don't have to be the ONLY good years of your life.

Hi Rich, college was a really good experience for me, it was my first time away from home and meet others and adventure. I had three roommates and we became really good friends as the years went on. However, it is a common perception that college is a transformative and enjoyable time for many people, where they gain a wealth of knowledge and life experiences. College provides opportunities for personal and intellectual growth, and can be a great period of exploration and self-discovery. Additionally, it is often where individuals form lasting friendships and networks, which can be valuable both professionally and personally. However, the experience of college can vary greatly from person to person, and it is important for each individual to find what works best for them.

Hi Rich,
Like most it was my first time living away from home, it was scary at first, but I got the hang of it pretty fast. Some of the happiest years of my life were in college, I stayed focus, studied and turn in assignments on time, there were a lot of distractions but, I found the balance. I take full advantage of my interest, attended school events, formed bonds with some pretty amazing people that I am still friends with. No regrets, 100% worth it.

College is a great experience although at times it may feel stressed due to the workload, and pacing of certain courses. In my personal experience, I moved away into a different town and was on my own for the first time. The new environment was great and I loved exploring the new town I was in. I met many new people, moved in with roommates, and made some friends whom I still keep in touch with. In my opinion, I feel like college is a great way to find out who you are and find out what you connect to! Whether it's your interests, hobbies, or the people you connect with. There is a lot of self-discovery and growth as you are navigating the world as an independent adult. Depending on your major, you can be overwhelmed with coursework but I think if you can master time management then you can pull through! Prioritize your studies but make sure to have fun and socialize with others. You can meet a lot of amazing people.

I completely agree. College definitely is hard work. It takes time and energy to get to class on time, learn, study, get good grades, but after all the technical work, there is always time for fun (at least for me there was time). In my personal experience, I went to college on a scholarship, so I didn't have to work to pay off student loans or anything like that. But I did take my school work very seriously and graduated on time with a decent GPA. While in college I joined a campus club and made so many connections and two years in a row I went with this club on a short conference trip to North Carolina (I'm from Florida) to meet, learn and make memories with other like-minded college students across the country. It was such an amazing experience! College is a place to learn, but not just in the classroom, but in everyday campus life. It's a place to make stupid decisions but then learn from them. It's a place to make life-long friendships. It's a place to have fun.
While I was in college I found what career path I wanted to pursue, I met friends that I still talk with to this day, and I also met my wonderful husband.... I would say college was so worth all the hard work! : )

Everyone experience is different but for me it was my first time living away from home. It was a great time in my life learning to live on my own making decision my parents use to make for me. I had a roommate and that helped me because she came from similar upbringing as I did and two head was better than one. It's not that you won't have missteps, but you learn from them and try not to repeat the same mistake. The most important thing is to remember the main reason you are there is to get an education! I studied hard and played even harder. I treasure my college years and was able to meet the best friends I still have all these years later. You will get out of it what you put in it. Take advantage of events, activities, fraternities, or clubs of your interest. It's okay to be nervous about the unknown but just keep moving forward toward your goals and you'll find yourself four years later with a degree and standing as a grown young man equipped for the next milestones in your life.

Your time in college is an opportunity for you to learn, build connections and have fun, but most importantly it is the period to discover yourself and to really find out where and what you are good at as a person. I will advice you to have fun as much as you can but look inward to really know and bring out your talent into the horizon.

Hi Rich! Everyone has a different experience in college. As you note, it can be both a great deal of work and also very memorable for the fun times. My experience was both. I served in the Army Reserve and worked a part-time job at a supermarket to help pay for college while I was attending, so there was plenty of work between serving our country, stocking grocery shelves and hitting the books. Of all the amazing people I met, my college friends are still the closest and most memorable. My grades were not the best, I must admit, but the learning and development of skills obtained in college have benefited me immensely. College teaches you "work/life balance" where you must juggle commitments, meet deadlines, network with people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. You are investing "the best years" of your life, so invest wisely and prepare to find a balance between work and fun. If you find that the "work/life" balance mix is off, you might miss out on important skills that will benefit you in the pursuit of the right career for you. Good luck!

Personally, I had a wonderful time in college and learn a lot about myself. I found out what I was passionate about, able to network with people that had similar interests, and have life long friendships. College is a balancing act and make sure to also take time for yourself. You can make your college experience anything you want it to be.

Every decade of life lends itself for the 'best time of our lives' -- it is sometimes for different reasons they are the best times of our lives! In college, you will learn a lot more about yourself. Discovering your innate interests and what you like, what kinds of people feed your soul, these are personally advances you will make within yourself. Remember that finding out the things you don't like or are not intersted in is just as important. Time in college is somewhat of a 'try it on and see how it fits'. I say that with regards to college courses, clubs, clothes, friends, significant others, majors, etc. Work hard and play hard, that is a common experience you'll hear and see regarding your years during college. You will make lifelong friends. Remember to take time out to care for yourself. Do yourself proud, work hard, enjoy it! Best of luck to you!

Your time in college should be enjoyable, but not the best of your life. You should be enjoying your life currently, and hopefully always working towards a better life. You want college to be a fond memory, but not so fond that you are constantly looking back, saying "I wish I could go back there."

Personally, I had a great time when I was in college. Had a gaming club that I went to at least multiple times a week. Had a lot of friends to chill with. When I got into University, that did change a bit, since at the same time I had a job. I wanted to do more stuff in University but with the job and homework, it was a little rough. If i could change anything it would be to try and make the most out of clubs and events.
